[Ann Shin]: China have been trying to kill Bitcoin more than 200 times.
[Ioana Lungu]: I'd be curious to know with all the losses and with so many upside downs in the industry, so many regulations or lack of regulation, how do you keep your faith alive in the ecosystem?
[Ann Shin]: Since 2013, 2014, China have been trying to kill Bitcoin like more than 200 times, I believe, and never succeeded.
So I realized you cannot kill Bitcoin. You cannot kill Ethereum because they're DeFi, you cannot kill them. As long as there's a group, people supporting it, you cannot kill it.
So I realized China has been trying to get rid of it for many, many years. They gave up. Russia has been trying to get rid of it. America has been trying to get rid of it. So if you can't kill it, you join them. So now every country's joining the crypto, the Bitcoin movement.
[Ioana Lungu]: I wanted to ask what your thoughts are on Web3 and the intersection, if not the overlap between Web3 and crypto.
[Ann Shin]: Web3 can survive without cryptocurrency, but cryptocurrency cannot survive without Web3. Cryptocurrency is just one corner, just a small piece of the big pie of Web3. I equate it with blockchain.
And Blockchain has many, many user cases that could be in FinTech, but it doesn't have to be limited to FinTech. When AI first came out, all people thought, okay blockchain, Web3 lost. AI is killing. No, it's not. They compliment each other.
[Ioana Lungu]: And when it comes to bringing more people on board, how can the ecosystem open itself up to more people?
[Ann Shin]: When institutions also get in the game, people realize, oh, if I don't get in it, I'm missing out. It's the fear of missing out. There is a chart showing the adoption rate of the internet versus blockchain.
Actually, the adoption rate of blockchain is faster than the internet. It took people more than 10 years to adopt the internet, but less than 10 years to adopt block blockchain. So where we're going at a very good rate. Web3's not going away.
[Ioana Lungu]: What advice would you give to people who are joining the Web3 and crypto space right now?
[Ann Shin]: Don't treat it as a gamble. It's, it's not gambling 'cause if you treat it as gambling most people will associate gambling with scam. It is not a scam. Blockchain's not a scam. Web3 's not a scam. DeFi's not a scam. Treat it as a technology, that's my advice.
It is a technology here to stay. Treat it as a technology to improve upon the infrastructure, what is already there.
